Press Release:
Micron Optics, Inc. Announces New Advances in the sm130 Optical Sensing Interrogator

Atlanta, GA February 29, 2008 - Micron Optics, Inc. announces exciting advances in the sm130, Micron Optics' dynamic Optical Sensing Interrogator. The sm130, currently deployed in hundreds of applications around the world, now has the option of two times the sensor capacity or two times the speed. The increase in scanning range to over 160 nm now means more sensors per channel; up to 640 sensors on four fibers. The new maximum continuous sampling rate of 2 kHz enables characterization of high frequency vibrations in complex structures. In addition, for demanding applications, multiple sm130s can be synched to obtain real-time simultaneous measurements of 1000s of sensors.

"This represents an important evolution of a widely-used interrogator platform," says Jeff Miller, President and CEO of Micron Optics. "As our core technology improves, so do the capabilities of our instruments. No one can match our combination of speed, repeatability, and sensor capacity".

The sm130 already allows full spectrum observation of optical characteristics and the measurement of distances between sensors. The versatility and flexibility of the sm130 in conjunction with the advantages of fiber optic sensors makes it perfect for applications ranging from structural health monitoring to oil & gas applications to transportation monitoring.
