Micron Optics is currently seeking a Senior Optical Engineer.
Responsibilities:
- Design, characterize, and qualify fiber lasers and other optical circuits for optoelectronic measurement instrumentation.
- Drive innovative improvements in laser-based instrumentation calibration methods, performance capabilities, and material/assembly costs.
- Determine performance requirements for optical subsystems, working in concert with electrical, mechanical, firmware, and software engineering to realize complete system-level measurement performance.
- Develop metrics and methodologies for design qualification and production verification for both the optical subsystem and complete instrumentation measurement performance.
- Design and execute appropriate tests and experiments to derive stable, manufacturable, and reproducible optical component requirements. Work with both internal and external component suppliers to source said components.
- Generate and distribute clear and accurate development documentation, in the forms of internal statements of work, validation and verification documents, product test limits, bills of material, assembly and test work instructions, product user manuals, test reports, etc.
- Coordinate with New Product Introduction personnel during manufacturing transfer and provide continuing support to manufacturing as needed.
- Interface with customers to aid in product support, application development, and new product definition efforts.
Education: BS degree (MS preferred) in Optics, Electrical Engineering or Physics.
Experience:
- Extensive hands-on experience with optical fiber and FO components, including fiber stripping, cleaving, splicing, optical alignments, etc.
- Prefer 5 years of design and/or test experience with optical components or fiber optic assemblies.
- Fiber laser experience is strongly preferred.
- Optical metrology experience preferred.
- Strong laboratory measurements skills and experience using equipment such as tunable lasers, optical spectrum analyzers, optical power meters, wavelength meters, and oscilloscopes.
- The ideal candidate has a proven record of successful product developments and transfers to manufacturing.
- Complete product life-cycle experience is strongly preferred.
- LabVIEW experience preferred.
Personal Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
